Howrah man posing as loan agent dupes woman in mobile scam; EMIs deducted despite no phone delivery

A case of financial fraud has been reported in Kolkata, where a woman was cheated in the name of securing a mobile phone through a loan. The Bidhannagar Electronic Complex police arrested the main accused, Sourmik Bhattacharya, from the Dasnagar area in Howrah on charges of cheating and fraud.

The complainant, Shukla Porail, alleged that the accused approached her posing as a loan agent and offered to help her purchase a mobile phone on EMI. In exchange for his services, he collected a one-time payment from her. However, despite the payment, she did not receive the mobile phone.

According to the complaint, Shukla Porail started noticing monthly EMI deductions from her bank account shortly after the transaction. When she questioned the accused about the delay in delivery, he kept deferring the date, which eventually led her to lodge a formal complaint with the police.

Based on the details provided, police initiated an investigation and successfully traced and arrested the accused from Howrah. He has been taken into custody for questioning regarding the incident. Authorities are currently verifying if the accused has committed similar frauds with other individuals.

Further legal proceedings are underway, and the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and criminal breach of trust. The accused will be produced before a local court following standard procedures.
